However, efficiently converting this biomass into fuels has been a technical challenge. Among these solvents, gamma-valerolactone (GVL) has proven to be especially effective. This chemical compound has properties that enable efficient extraction of cellulose, lignin, and furfural, three key components of lignocellulosic biomass.   <\/p>\n<p>Cellulose is the most abundant part of biomass and is essential for biofuel production. By breaking down cellulose into simple sugars through hydrolysis, these sugars can be fermented to produce ethanol, a widely used biofuel. Lignin, on the other hand, is a complex polymer that, although difficult to process, also holds great energy potential.
